Dear kids, here is the story i promised to write to you. imagine a lot of snow, ice, sun and cold all in one place. it’s called antarctica! and it is the coldest part of the world. it is also the highest and the windiest. there are a lot of mountains and icebergs in antarctica. do you know what icebergs are like? they are large and beautiful pieces of ice like mountains made from glass and snow. scientists from different countries stay here for short periods of time. usually they live in special stations. there are some unusual birds that live in antarctica. they are called penguins. they are quite big birds but they can’t fly at all. but they are excellent swimmers and divers. while the penguins’ mums spend the winter at sea, their dads take care of the eggs for nine weeks. during this time they don’t eat or drink. for extra warmth these brave and strong birds live in big groups. together they try to keep their children out of the cold air and wind. the blue whale lives in antarctica too. it is the largest animal in the world. but i will write you about them in my next story. send your letters to our magazine. ask me as many questions a you can and i’ll try to answer them all. a. an english correspondent b. young scientists c. an unusual land надо !

Текст о c. an unusual landна всякий случай и перевод: дорогие дети, вот , которую я обещал написать вам. представьте себе много снега, льда, солнца и холода в одном месте. это называется антарктидой! и это самая холодная часть мира. а так же самая высокая и самая ветреная. в антарктиде много гор и айсбергов. вы знаете, как выглядят айсберги? это большие и красивые куски льда, похожие на горы, сделанные из стекла и снега. ученые из разных стран останавливаются здесь на короткое время. обычно они живут на специальных станциях. в антарктиде живут кое-какие необычные птицы. их называют пингвинами. они довольно крупные птицы, но они вообще не могут летать. но они отличные пловцы и ныряльщики. в то время как мамы пингвинов проводят зиму в море, их папы заботятся о яйцах в течение девяти недель. в это время они не едят и не пьют. ради дополнительного тепла, эти храбрые и сильные птицы живут в больших группах. вместе они защищают детей от холодного воздуха и ветра. в антарктиде так же живет голубой кит. это самое большое животное в мире. но я расскажу вам о них в своей следующей . присылайте свои письма в наш журнал. задайте мне столько вопросов, сколько сможете, и я постараюсь ответить на них.
