Когда мистер хайрам б отис, американский посол, купил кентервиль чейз, каждый сказал ему, что это был глупый поступок, так как место было haunted.at одиннадцать вечера семья пошла спать, а к половине четвертого все огни погасли. некоторое время после, мистер отис проснулся от шума за пределами его комнаты. это звучало как * у chank металла. он встал, чиркнул спичкой и посмотрел на время. это было ровно час ночи. мистер отис был совершенно спокоен. странный шум продолжался, и с этим он услышал звук шагов. он надел тапочки, взял маленькую бутылочку из его несессер, и открыл дверь. прямо перед собой он увидел старика. он выглядел ужасно . глаза у него были красные волосы его были длинные и серая одежда его была старой моды и грязно, и там были ржавые наручники и цепи на его запястьях и лодыжках. «мой дорогой сэр, - сказал мистер отис «те цепи в дополнительной смазке» . вот взять маленькую бутылочку смазки. я оставлю это здесь для вас, и я вам больше, если вам это нужно . с этими словами посол поставил бутылку на мраморный столик и пошел обратно в кровать, закрывая дверь позади него.
