the holiday of ivan kupala is more than two thousand years old. traditionally, the festival is celebrated on the night of 6 to 7 july. this is perhaps the only pagan surviving to this day holiday, which is almost not affected by christianity. this holiday was celebrated on the territory of all ukraine, as evidenced by the kupala songs.

the night of ivan kupala is considered magical. only on the youth's bathing night was allowed to be naughty, flirt with each other, kissing, hugging (enter into intimate relations), after ivan kupala the guy had to marry the girl with whom he was flirting.

according to legend, this night the wedding of kupala and marena was played - it symbolized the union of the male and female principles, two elements (kupala - the embodiment of fire, marena - water).

празднику ивана купалы более двух тысяч лет. традиционно фестиваль отмечается в ночь с 6 на 7 июля. это, , единственный сохранившийся до наших дней языческий праздник, на который почти не повлияло христианство. этот праздник отмечался на территории всей украины, о чем свидетельствуют купальские песни.

ночь ивана купалы считается волшебной. только в купальную ночь молодежи разрешалось шалить, флиртовать друг с другом, целоваться, обниматься (вступать в интимные отношения), после ивана купалы парень должен был жениться на девушке, с которой флиртовал.

по преданию, в эту ночь разыгрывалась свадьба купалы и марены - она символизировала союз мужского и женского начал, двух стихий (купала - воплощение огня, марена - воды).
