The kitchen was usually steamy with a large pot of soup cooking on the stove for hours or laundry being boiled for greater whiteness. behind the the kitchen there was a tiny balcony, barely big enough to hold two people. looking down, you could see a courtyard where i used to spend many hours playing ball with  the other kids and a bit of garden with many beautiful flowers.
