i just got back from a bachelor party in new orleans the week before mardi gras, and holy crap, i love that place. the architecture, the music, the parades, the food — all incredible. the fact that this poor, beaten-down, mostly black american city has decided to fight storms, government incompetence, predatory development, and oppression with probably the most joyous, celebratory culture in the world is just mind-blowing.
