they ( were calling) the police when they (saw) a famous detective hercule poirot. he ( lived) in this house three years ago. he (entered) the flat while he (was asking) questions about the situation. he (was doing) it when he ( fished) a letter out of the dead woman's pocket. the letter was: «i (invited) you to come to my flat day before. you (did not come) at that time. come to me today…» there was not a piece of the letter as if somebody has torn it. poirot (thought) the letter (was) the cause of her death. then he (decided) to make an investigative experiment. he (asked) young men to look for something unusual in the kitchen while he (was looking for) it in the dining room. when donahue (found) some bottle and (smelt) it, he (fell down). everybody (came) to him. but poirot (found) something in his pocket. there were the pieces of the letter and the key of patricia's flat! everybody (understood) that donahue (was) guilty. the dead woman (was) his wife the day before. but donahue (loved) patricia and he (killed) the woman in the flat yesterday. she has promised to tell patricia about their marriage.
