The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world. It's area is approximately 17 million square kilometres. The country has 11 time zones. Russia's climate is very diverse. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Russia is 45.4 degrees Celsius and the coldest is -71.2. The Russian Federation is also home to the Northern Pole of Cold, Oymyakon. Russia is also a very biodiverse country and has the largest forest reserve in the world. For that it is known as  "the lungs of Europe". Russia is also home to the highest mountain in Europe - Elbrus. The lowest point in Europe is also situated in Russia.
