London grew up around two historic cities - the City of London and the City of Westminster. The City of Westminster began as a residence for Englend's rulers.

Today the area where the Roman London stood is know as the City of London .It is often called the City. It is the oldest part of London. In ancient times the City was surrounded by a great wall.
