1in fact, astronomers had been exploring the universe long before the beginning of space flights. 2 galileo made the first optical telescope used for astronomy in 1609. 3 from the beginning of the space age, both the soviet union and the united states were active in the exploration of the solar system. 4 the first manned flight took place on april 12, 1961, when yuri gagarin went into orbit in the soviet vostok 1 spaceship and proved that man could survive in space. 5the second-generation soviet spaceships voskhod were made for a whole crew of astronauts. 6 in 1965 voskhod 2 made a flight which was really memorable because the copilot, alexei leonov, left the ship for the first time and became a space walker. 7the soviet third-generation manned spaceship soyuz was able of maneuvering and spending almost unlimited time in space. 8the next stage of space exploration was connected with the use of orbital stations,which was firstly launched in 1986. 9 at the same time the usa carried on its programme of the moon exploration and in 1969 neil armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. 10 the future of space exploration seems to be connected with cooperation work in space.
