karlsson-on-the-roof is a character that appears in a series of children's books by the swedish author astrid lindgren.

karlsson is a very short plump man who lives in a small house hidden behind a chimney on the roof of an apartment building in stockholm. karlsson can fly because he has a motor with a propeller on his back. he makes friends with a boy nicknamed lillebror (in the russian translation he is called malysh).

karlsson often causes trouble but in the end everybody in lillebror's family grow to like this funny man.
