Да, артикль the используется в множественном числе. не используется "а " т.к. его можно перевести как "один". the ставим, когда используем в значении "все", "те самые", "эти". также если в единственном числе с существительным мы используем the, то когда это существительное перейдет в множественную форму, артикле останется. например the present --> the presents понятно?
