erich    segal was born in 1937 in new york. he was a graduate of harvard and wrote texts for musicals. today he lives in new haven and is a professor for literature in new york.

when “love story” was published in 1970 it became a number one bestseller. the book was translated into 23 different languages. over three million people saw the film when it came into the cinemas in the same year.

i’d like to tell you about the novel “love story”. it is a tragic story.

the main characters of this novel are oliver barret, a rich sportsman, and jenny cavillery, a poor girl. he studied at harvard university. once they met in the radcliffe library. he invited her to the hockey match where he was playing.

a few weeks later oliver met his father, old stoneface. their relations were bad. they hardly spoke to each other that day. oliver’s father was a very successful man and played hockey in the olympic games. he was a busy man. oliver had the best friend ray stratton. oliver often told him about his girlfriends but never told about jenny.

soon oliver introduced jenny to his parents. old stonyface said oliver if he married, he would get nothing from him. then jenny introduced oliver to her father. she was his only child and her mother was dead. she meant a lot to him.

when they graduated their universities they decided to get married. the wedding was quiet and very beautiful.

later jenny worked hard and after summer they found a flat that was very expensive. soon they moved to new york. they wanted a child very much. they decided to call him bozo. they went to the doctor. doctor sheppard did test blood. a few days later he told oliver that jenny would never have children because she had a blood disease and she was dying. soon jennifer knew about it herself. she was having trouble walking.

in the morning oliver asked his father for money. but they didn’t help. jenny was dead and oliver cried.

                he was single again.

i think, this book is with semi-bad ending, because oliver lost his beloved but the relations between him and his father were reproving.
