Уголок ораторов в гайд-парке – известный на весь мир символ свободы слова. тут, на северо-восточном углу парка, рядом с мраморной аркой, почти всегда (по крайней мере, в светлое время суток) кто-нибудь выступает. место, где высится арка, имеет жуткую : когда-то здесь стояло «тайбернское дерево» – виселица, народ собирался посмотреть на казнь. говорят, осуждённому давали перед смертью выкрикнуть всё, что он хочет. уголок ораторов как площадка, где каждый может публично высказаться на любую тему, возник в 1872 году в ответ на массовые беспорядки и требования реформ. началось всё в тридцатые годы xix века, когда чартисты собирали в гайд-парке протестующих рабочих. в 1855 году вышел закон, запрещающий торговать и покупать в воскресенье – единственный выходной у рабочих, и в гайд-парке вспыхнули беспорядки. через 10 лет была создана лига реформы, боровшаяся за всеобщее избирательное право для мужчин. в 1866 году крупный митинг сторонников лиги, который они собирались проводить в гайд-парке, запретили, но люди всё равно прорвались туда – полторы тысячи полицейских не смогли их остановить. общественность стала широко обсуждать «право говорить», и в 1872 году был издан закон, по которому разрешать или запрещать публичные обсуждения должны были администрации парков, а не власти. впрочем, установили общий принцип, а не конкретное место – ни в каких документах уголок ораторов не был отражён. он существует как традиция. speakers corner in hyde park – the world famous symbol of freedom of speech. here, in the north-east corner of the park, near marble arch, are almost always (at least in the daytime) someone acts. the place where the arch stands, is a horrible story: once there was "tabernae tree" – the gallows, people gathered to watch a hanging. they say he was given before his death to shout out whatever he wants. the speakers corner as a platform where everyone is able to speak publicly on any topic, appeared in 1872, in response to riots and demands for reform. it all began in the thirties of the xix century, when the chartists gathered in hyde park protesting workers. in 1855 came the law, forbidding to trade and buy on sunday – the only day off from work, and in hyde park, a riot broke out. after 10 years, was created by the reform league, who fought for universal suffrage for men. in 1866 a large meeting of supporters of the league that they were going to spend in hyde park, was banned, but people still broke through there, fifteen hundred police are unable to stop them. the public became widely discussed "right to speak", and in 1872 was published the law on which to allow or prohibit public discussion were the administration of the parks, not the government. however, the established general principle, not a specific place – in any documents speakers corner was not reflected. it exists as a tradition.
