Потому что это глагол после глагола, то есть после сказуемого пишется либо инфинитив (to know), либо герундий (he avoid speaking). что после чего пишется надо учить по правилу

Our tennis club is near the shopping center. it looks like a big building with glass roof. you  can look through the glass at the sky. tennis club has got 2 tennis courts and a swimming pool. many people go there: children, adults and the old people. you can go there from 6 am to 11 pm every day. i prefer sports and i'm glad we have this tennis club in our town.
