the thames is the longest river in england and the second longest river in the united kingdom. numerous tourists from all over the world like to go on boat excursions up and down the river. a lot of interesting old and modern buildings can be seen on both sides of the river. the houses of parliament stand on the northern part of the thames and not far from them on the southern bank of the river you can see the london eye wheel.

a very big concert hall was built on the thames in the year 2000 and it was called the millenium centre. many popular singers such as paul mccartney and elton john had their concerts in that millenium centre.

there is a tradition to throw some coins into the thames from london bridge and other bridges. every second tourist throws some coins into the river in order to return to london once more so   there may be about a million euro found on the bottom of the river.

london bridge and tower bridge are the most  famous bridges built on the thames. another unusual bridge over the river, the bridge of queen elisabeth ii, has the only one way road for cars to go through it, but   one more way for the cars to drive back has been built in the  tunnel under this bridge.
